Wondering how to train your pet to use PawSpot?

Training of pets is less complex and much faster than humans.
This is because dogs have a superior sense of smell and use it to get trained. Cats have a natural instinct to dig, eliminate and bury their waste and are inherently easier to train.
TIPS TO TRAIN YOU PET TO USE PAWSPOT
-
Pet training is about love, patience, investing the desired time and then reaping the rewards.
-
Pets relieve after sleep, eating/ drinking or play session.
-
Place your pet on pawspot after any of the above.
-
Say a command which you want to use for them to learn that it’s time to do their business. Like poo, shoosh, potty or pawspot etc. Do not say any other words like your pet’s name and repeat the command after some interval.
-
Let it remain on pawspot and repeat the command until it releases itself.
-
Young pet may need to pee every 30 mins. Pets usually gesture with a cry, booty shake, run from the place they were lying down/sleeping, squat, start sniffing, going in a tight circle. It could be any other gesture which you shall understand after monitoring it for sometime.
-
Pick your pet immediately and place it on pawspot.
-
Praise your pet enthusiastically when it releases itself on pawspot.
-
Repetition of this action will eventually result in your pet trained to use the pawspot.
-
Even when a young pet accidently does it in the house, do not scold. Instead repeat the command chosen by you for potty training just before or when they are doing it.
-
Thoroughly clean the accident spot in the house so that there is no smell, else it may happen again. Do not stub your pet’s nose in the pee/ poop to explain it.
-
The above process usually takes 3-4 weeks and can be longer for some pets. Its lesser than humans after all !
-
Training an older pet may take longer time but if you invest the time you will reap rewards.
-
Use the command which you tell your grown up pet to talk a walk/ relieve itself. It will get ready.
-
Ask it to climb on pawspot and repeat the command.
-
Make it stay on pawspot until they releases itself. They may come down or start playing but point towards the pawspot and ask it to climb again. Be very patient, praise the pet and repeat the command.
-
While training an adult pet try not to take it as often to their usual spot.
-
If the above methods are followed by a prize or reward your pet will learn to repay the action.
-
Continue to reward the pet until it will release itself on command 9/10 times, then mix up the reward, and eventually you won’t need it at all.
